Chez RLC, we’ve been knee-deep in paints, cardboard, burlap and straw (of course) for weeks to get our own entry ready in time! Click below to see what we’ve made…

Meet our Famous Pair: Doc Brown and Marty McFly from the Back to the Future franchise, with their mind-blowing, time travelling Delorean and accessories – fire trails, plutonium case, and Doc’s remote control.
We decided early on that this was the build for us! We are a family of major Back to the Future fans, and couldn’t wait to get stuck into the challenge – it has been a proper family effort!
We started back in the Spring with the Delorean, which was made out of long cardboard boxes that once delivered us some garden tools. This was spray painted silver, with rear lights made from craft tape, and the numberplate made from scratch with the help of a Cricut cutting machine.
Mr Fusion: made from cardboard, craft tape and that trusty Cricut cutting machine for the logo.
88mph Fire Trails: road made from black card and craft tape, and flames made from orange and yellow tissue paper, cellophane and a glue gun – made by all of us.
The Doc Brown and Marty McFly Scarecrows
It’s a pretty standard scarecrow build, beginning with a biodegradeable boiler suit for each of them, stuffed with recycled packing materials and the requisite straw! Both heads are made from traditional burlap that we use in the garden, stuffed with old bags. The stands were made from old fence pieces, sawn to size and nailed together.
Doc Brown
It’s a simple white boiler suit with some old rubber gloves (for the safe handling of plutonium, of course).
Marty McFly
Jeans and shirt from the Commuity Shop in Shenley Church End. Nike trainers from Vinted and the signature red tick coloured in. Denim jacket and “life preserver” from our own family wardrobes, and the 80s headphones as well.
The Accessories
Plutonium crate: designed and created by the second youngest Chamberlain, this started life as a trainers box and is covered with craft tape to create the movie look. The Cricut cutting machine helped us with the symbols, we’ve lined it with foil and added some sweet treats too.
Doc’s Delorean remote: designed and created by the youngest Chamberlain, it’s a cardboard box, covered with craft tape and with a foil-covered skewer.
Now it’s built and installed, and we wait to welcome our trail visitors – and look forward to walking the trail ourselves to see all the other incredible creations, because it really is one of those regular, community events that are such a highlight of the calendar!
