There’s something very special about crafting with nature – having that miraculous beauty literally at your fingertips, pairing and posing it to make it look even more beautiful, and then placing it somewhere that will give you a little dart of joy every time you see it. Even just picking a flower and placing it in a little vase on your kitchen windowsill can offer the same effect – but there’s nothing quite like a session with a true expert to give the confidence to arrange like an artist, and give you a proper sense of pride and accomplishment. And when you’ve achieved something like that, especially when you’ve done it alongside another local business, it’s a great topic to share on your blog and social media.

Cerus Jarvis’s family have owned a workshop at Thrift Wood in Bucks for many years, and are famous far and wide for the stunning Christmas trees they sell each winter – and Cerus provides some of the most stunning floral displays around, for high-profile hospitality businesses and for life events like weddings and funerals. And she also shares her expertise at small, intimate sessions at her workbench in the woods.

Learning to be a Floral Artist

I’ve attended two fabulous workshops at Cerus Botanical Design and Floristry – one to produce an amazing Autumn wreath, and one to create an arrangement in an unusual container. Cerus offers her guidance, knowledge and all the materials you could need to create something you never knew you were capable of, and you go away with the skills and confidence to do it again. I’ve since made my own Christmas and willow wreaths, using a combination of natural blooms and foliage that I’ve clipped from the garden, and artificial ones too. I’ve also felt capable of deconstructing and rearranging bunches of flowers I’ve bought, and creating new posies, bouquets and displays to put in different places around my home.

The lift to your mental health when you create like this is wonderful. Focussing on the beauty of the natural materials, how they feel and smell, and how they look as you position them is so engrossing; taking pride in the finished result, and feeling that little leap of joy whenever you look at it, are great mood-lifters as well. I get a similar satisfaction from writing: crafting a piece that reflects how I’m feeling and what I want to say can be so cathartic, whatever it is I’m writing about.

Writing About You

It’s so good for your blog and for your social media to write posts about you: where you reveal a little about your interests and who you are. It adds personality to your brand and your content, and offers people a way to relate to you – which means they’re more likely to approach and buy from you. Lots of people find it difficult to come up with topics they’re happy to share for this sort of post – but this is a great option. Talking about an experience you’ve had with another local business is a brilliant way to share insights into what you like, who you work with and your values. Your promotion of them, and their promotion of you when you both share the post, is also great for your reach and exposure.

“Where Words Dance with Petals”

What I didn’t realise was that Cerus is on exactly the same page with those benefits – and I was so excited when she suggested that we work together to host a workshop with a difference: Botanicals and Blogs, which we’re holding on Friday 10 May at 11am. We’re bringing together two different forms of creativity, both of which will boost your mood – and give you some brilliant new content for your business as well.

In Cerus’ beautiful workshop in the woods, we’ll be creating a beautiful hand-tied floral bouquet – working with gorgeous blooms and foliage to produce a posy to be proud of, that is unique to each one of us. Next, we’ll be talking about how to put that experience into writing – what we did, what we felt, what we enjoyed and why others might too – and I’ll be showing you how to incorporate more personal pieces like this into your blog and social media, and how that will be a huge boost to both you and the local business you’re writing about.

We’d love you to join us for a session that’s all about getting lost in the moment – and writing about how wonderful that feels. As Cerus described it in a recent Facebook post: “Let’s embark on a journey where words dance with petals and imagination knows no bounds!”
