This month, I’m so excited to share the story of Reena, who runs her own mobile beauty and nails business here in Milton Keynes: Beauty and Nails by Reena. She’s just fabulous at what she does, and she’s made an art out of her business, and out of creating the life she wants…
I rarely have a speck of makeup on, but I do love having my nails done – and if I’m heading off on holiday, an eyelash tint and an eyebrow wax are always in order, because they give me an instant look of tailored neatness and mascara with no effort at all on my part. But with almost every hour of the day accounted for with work and kids, how on earth is a salon appointment to be accomplished? By cutting out all the hassle, and having Reena come to me – which is just a perfect service for so many of us.
It’s not easy making time for a treatment, but if you have to sort out childcare, get yourself there, find parking and make your appointment on time, you can sometimes question if it’s worth it. None of that to consider with Reena, though – she’ll be with you at a time you’d like her, and has absolutely no problem with kids, dogs, cats or any other companions being around!
From gel nails and spa pedicures (my favourites) to spray tanning and waxing, Reena’s got a way to pamper you. She’ll bring everything she needs to give you a salon experience, without you even needing to leave the house. Young or old, first time or beauty addict, she’s happy to talk you through every service she offers, what it involves and how to keep it looking on point for longer.
There’s so much to say about what Reena offers: her years of knowledge and experience, her qualifications and insistence upon the highest standards of safety, quality and satisfaction, her patience, aftercare and customer loyalty scheme – but I think what sums her up best is that she’s an artist. Reena has taken everything about being a mobile beautician, and turned it into an art, at which she is highly skilled.
I don’t just mean the care and talent she brings to creating beautiful nails, lashes, and brows; although she is an absolute master of these, and her attention to detail is second to none. But she’s also made an art out of making you feel great. She has a naturally easy manner, so you feel comfortable straightaway in her company – she’s so easy to talk to, and we can chat for hours. And I always know that I’m in the very best hands for treatments, because the highest standards are at the heart of everything she does.

But this is a long way from what she thought was possible, as she grew up in Luton. “Things were complicated at home growing up, and I left school with no GCSEs, and no real idea of what sort of career I wanted.” She got an apprenticeship at River Island in Luton on the door, and worked her way through NVQs to become the stock room manager. She and her sister then tried a taste of London life, but realised the rent price could get them much more accommodation back here in Milton Keynes, so she moved back and got a job at the National Express bus station, doing all the customer announcements.
Again she worked her way up to become manager, but this meant providing cover on what used to be her afternoon off, when needed – and on those occasions, she would struggle to book in her much-loved treat time at a beauty salon. “And just then I saw the gap in the market for beauty and nails treatments at a time and place when customers want them – and I decided to qualify in all of the beauty treatments I wanted to offer, and set up my own business.”
Reena did her qualifications at MK College while still working, hoping she was right and that there were many people out there who would love a beauty treatment, but couldn’t get to a salon when they were open. “As soon as I had qualified, I had some leaflets printed and distributed them to houses and flats in the area – and the phone started ringing.”
Beauty and Nails by Reena began, and now Reena enjoys all the benefits of owning your own business – doing what she loves, and makingher own hours around her beautiful family. “When I left school all those years ago, I never would have imagined running my own business – and I love what I do! Providing a mobile beauty service that helps clients to treat themselves in their own homes, fitting around their work and family commitments is just brilliant – and it fits around my family too, which couldn’t be more perfect. It just goes to show that what you end up doing can be a million miles away from what you ever thought possible.”
