I’ve been running a Project of the Month feature on my site Portfolio page since July, and it was the excellent idea of Mr RLC Words to start making more of the bigger projects I’ve done. I also suggested this as a potential idea to everyone at a Blogging Workshop I ran just yesterday (over 60 people! More of that another day), so I’d better practise what I preach really. So here it is – October’s Project of the Month, and it’s for a fabulous local business in Stony Stratford.
Handmade by Abbi
I’d love to introduce you to Abbi. She hand makes beautiful animals, cushions, bags, blankets – all sorts of things – out of the precious fabrics you can’t bear to part with. Those adorable little babygrows that they wore in their first few months; that gorgeous coat that they grew out of in four months; that first school uniform; and even the most dear and familiar clothes of a loved one who’s no longer here. If you’d like something to keep those fleeting days alive, Abbi can help. She’s such a lovely lady, and you’ll find her very approachable and happy to help. The heart of her business ethos is in understanding perfectly just how precious these fabrics are, and how important this beautiful creation will be to you once it’s done; and that is so clear in everything she does.
Abbi has been making keepsakes for a long time, but has only recently decided to turn it into a business – and for that, she wanted a website where customers could order bespoke items, or browse her ready-made ones and purchase there and then.
I believe your website should be a deeply personal part of your identity as a business, and that’s it’s got to be absolutely right for you, so that you are proud to send your customers there. We worked together until we got the perfect virtual shop window for her lovely business.
So here’s what we came up with: a website that reflects Abbi, her business, and why she loves what she does:
Here’s what we included:
- Home page, with a description of the commissioning and creating process for those bespoke items
- A Shop, with the ability to take credit card and Paypal payments
- About Me page
- Blog
- Contact forms on each page (all fully GDPR compliant, of course)
- Policy and Cookie Policy (these get a surprising number of hits)
- email addresses with matching domain names
All optimised to look lovely on mobile and tablet, as well as desktop.
Here’s the link, so please do have a look around: https://handmadebyabbi.com/
Abbi’s feedback says it all really – there’s nothing like hearing this when you’ve finished a new creation for someone: “I am really really delighted with the website!”
If you’d like to have a chat about your first website, or even a brand new one, please do get in touch with me via my own lovely contact forms, or through rebecca@rlwords.co.uk
